Why don't academics become politicians or hold elected office?
It just seems logical to put the smartest, most ethical people, in the most impt positions. But there has only been one U.S. President to hold a Phd (Wilson). And academics rarely are elected to Congress. I wish we could mark none of the above on the ballot and begin a search for the most talented person, not the person with the deepest pockets or best fundraising ability.

- most politicians are crooks and liars who only work for their self interest and you dont need any educational qualification to be a politicians or even president all you need to be is a US citizen and over 35 thats all
- They are too smart to want the job. FYI: Bill Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar and Hillary was Valedictorian of her Ivy League college. Not too shabby. Geoge W, was a c student that prob. got into Yale because of his Daddy.
- my god are you misinformed.these are the pin heads that brain wash our youth and turn out dumb liberals.they live in a dream world that is totally devoid of reality.
- Probably because its more rewarding to be on a one on one basis with someone and hopefully influence their lives first hand. Besides, politics isn't about being book-smart.
- Because they're too smart to want the job.
- If you're smart, it's a much better idea to be an activist. You can afford to keep your ideals, and if you're persistent, making a politician's life hell is its own reward.
- Well we have that chance now. Obama held a university faculty position for years.
- Because Marxists and Communists and Socialists and Leninists and Stalinists tend not to do well in American politics. They prefer to run their 'offices' from their tenured positions in our colleges and universities. Go to CampusWatch.org to learn about these 'academics'.
- Guess you do not know yet but OBAMA is running he is very educated and most top academics support him.... I wish some would to, guess they want to remain private and would not be able to take the ugliness that comes with it all when they put themselves out for public scrutiny Takes a strong person to overcome the attention. Found most academics are shy
