Is a community college easier than high school in terms of academics?

Many people telling me that college is better than high school, but I am wondering if it is better in terms of academics, not socially.

  1. CC is the same as HS... more or less... not harder, just little bit upper level of education.
  2. That will depend on the high school you attend and the community college you are speaking of. Most likely the college will be more academically challenging then high school unless you chose a very academically poor university.
  3. No because in community college they have less time to teach you which means they pack a weeks worth of work in to 2 or 3 days.
  4. college is supposed to be a step up from highschool, ideally you should take what you learn in highschool and use that as the basics to learn advanced stuff in college. Im not sure what kind of stuff they teach in college now, but lots of highschool juniors are taking classes at community colleges for credit at both.
  5. I would hope not. Just pick your courses carefully, so you are not repeating what you previously learned. It also depends upon the quality of the CC.
  6. It depends on the community college and the high school. However, generally, a college will be more challenging academically than a high school. I preferred the social aspects of college much more than high school but that may be up to the person. It just seemed easier to be an individual in college. One doesn't have to fit a narrow mold in order to have a full social life in college.
  7. College is more demanding than high school, but community colleges aren't very much more demanding. It's material at a lower level geared towards students who can't devote all their time to studying.
  8. yes, cc is definitely harder---think about it. it's higher level than high school.
  9. To me community college was just an extension of high school. You can save money by going, but don't expect the life-inspiring teachers found at Universities. You get what you pay for.
  10. Depends on your state. In Illinois, there is a consortium to make sure that the same topics are covered in a Community College course as all Public Universities. Intro to Stats at Parkland College covers the same topics as Intro to Stats at Illinois State. Makes transferring easier. In Indiana, the Ivy Tech system barely offers anything equivalent to 4 year education. It mainly offers technical courses, and they did not even transfer anything until a couple years ago.
