  1. I just think it shows dedication and that's a good skill to have in life, Plus you are clearly educated on a variety of things, if you had a goods, most of the time.
  2. You would first have to define a successful life. Your idea of success would be different from another's.
  3. Of course, better job. More money.
  4. That's not necessarily true, it's not the grades themselves that lead to a successful life but the drive and ambition that produced those grades. People who get good grades have what it takes to do well in life.
  5. Well, when I was in ToK, I would have said we -can't- know because we can never truly know anything with any significant degree of certainty, but especially not something as ambiguous as this. I still maintain that we don't know that good grades leads to a successful life. what do you mean by a successful life? A good paying job? A family? A house full of animals? Being able to do whatever you want when you want? My brother, for example, failed miserable in school, barely graduated. However, he seems to be living the life he wants (which I'm going to say right now I don't think it's a successful life, but maybe he does). He has sex all the time, father kids that he doesn't do anything about (not even paying child support), barely works, goes to school -just- to get the student loans/grants and basically lives off of other people entirely. I, on the other hand, had a 4.0 until my sophomore year of high school, then it dropped a little (and has since dropped more in college). however, I'm mostly independent now (which is my biggest wish, to be truly independent. I don't want to settle down and get married, i want to live my own life, I don't want to have to rely on anyone). I was recently diagnosed with Asperger's (which was an incredible relief). I have my own apartment, my own dog, and my own car. I have a job I love. Yes, there are things I would change. There really is no way to say that grades are or are not related to the success of one's life. Have fun with it though ;) Tests will be here before you know it, good luck. They're really not too bad :D
  6. In which aspect (are we talking salary cap\overall happiness\etc.)? We know that higher scores on standardized tests like the ACT and SAT are great predictors for good performance in the first year of college (after the 1st year its a toss up), but for the most part, grades don't really predict success. This is due to the amazingly vast number of independent variables in life. You're gonna have to look up certain articles to find out what the statistics are on grades and later success. I believe that the main variables that effect grades are gonna be socioeconomic status, parenting, academic performance, birth order, drug use in the family (specifically lack there of), and the application of ability (IQ, creativity, etc.) Try looking up some info in these areas to help out.
  7. From experience, I know this to be true. The qualities possessed by those who can discipline themselves to earn the grades fare better in life. When life presents obstacles, these are the ones who solve problems, and stay on top of things. Laziness is a lifetime curse. Not only is it a recipe for failure in and of itself, but the ignorance it allows one to live with just keeps putting one farther and farther behind the ones who bother to get educated. The longer it goes on, the harder it is to catch up, the more it eats away at the self esteem, and the bigger and more debilitating the failure becomes. How do we define a successful life? I define it as one of progressive learning and successful resolution of the challenges life presents. ADD....even if addiction or other debilitating conditions are encountered by these people, they tend to be better at utilizing resources and finding ways to remain productive, or to return to productive living.
  8. i dont know why dont you ask my friend who had a 4.0 GPA in highschool and now regularly gets arrested for being drunk as do many other people i know that got really good grades and it kind of depends on how you define success
