The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on April 3 that an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) sidewalk and curb ramp improvement project will start on April 6 along Colorado Highway 83, also known as Parker Road. The work, led by contractor Chatos Concrete LLC, will take place at more than 25 intersections between East Florida and East Quincy Avenue and is expected to be completed by July 2026.

The project aims to upgrade over 100 sidewalk ramps to meet ADA standards, providing safer and more accessible travel paths for people who walk or use mobility devices. The department said these upgrades are designed to reduce vehicle miles traveled, ease congestion, and improve both environmental and economic conditions in the affected areas.

In addition to ramp improvements, the work will include minor signage updates, new striping, and push button enhancements at crossings. Daytime construction hours are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, with additional work likely on most Saturdays. Nighttime operations may occur intermittently throughout the project period. Lane closures will vary depending on location but are expected around intersection sites; single-lane and shoulder closures are anticipated along the corridor.

Partial closures at CO 83’s intersections with eastbound and westbound roads within the zone may cause minor travel impacts. Some partial closures at CO 83’s ramps connecting with Interstate-225 could occur intermittently; while full ramp closures are not planned, they may be required if necessary. Sidewalks and crosswalks will remain open during construction except for marked partial closures guiding pedestrians around active sites.

According to the official website of the Colorado Department of Transportation (source), the agency works to improve quality of life through integrated transportation solutions across Colorado’s highways while supporting aviation and transit projects statewide. Shoshana Lew serves as executive director of CDOT according to its official website. For real-time updates about lane closures or road conditions related to this project or others in Colorado’s transportation network overseen by CDOT as outlined online, residents can visit COTrip.org.
