The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 31 that it will begin installing cable rail in the median of Interstate 25 just north of Pueblo, starting April 6. The work will be conducted between Mile Point 108.5 and MP 114.1, with Siete, Inc. as the contract partner.
The project is intended to improve safety for motorists by preventing vehicles from crossing the median into oncoming traffic lanes. According to the department, additional work will include grading, cleaning culverts and inlets for drainage, installing a weed barrier, and updating existing guardrails.
Motorists traveling through this section should expect nighttime construction from Sunday through Thursday between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., with median shoulder closures and some inside single lane closures within the work zone. Drivers are urged to use caution, follow posted signs, and maintain safe following distances while passing through construction areas.
The Colorado Department of Transportation oversees transportation infrastructure across Colorado and is responsible for building and maintaining interstates such as I-25 as well as U.S. highways and state highways while administering grants for aviation and transit according to its official website.
