Motorists in Pueblo should prepare for two weekend closures of US Highway 50B as the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and SEMA Construction work to improve drainage at the Interstate 25 and US 50B Interchange. The project involves installing new pipes beneath US 50B, requiring closure of one direction at a time between I-25 and Hudson Avenue/Bonforte Boulevard.

The first closure will affect eastbound US 50B from I-25 to Hudson Avenue/Bonforte Boulevard. This closure is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 12, and continue through 7 a.m. on Sunday, September 14. During this period, there will be no access to eastbound US 50B from either southbound or northbound I-25 at the interchange.

A detour will be provided for drivers:

Northbound I-25 traffic heading to US 50B should use the US 50B/CO 47 off-ramp and travel east on CO 47 (Exit 101) to reach US 50.
Southbound I-25 traffic should exit at City Center Drive (Exit 98B), proceed east on City Center Drive, then north on Chester Avenue, and finally travel east on East 4th Street (CO 96) to access US 50.

Following the completion of work on the eastbound lanes, westbound US 50B will also be closed between I-25 and Hudson Avenue/Bonforte Boulevard for similar drainage installation activities. Detours for westbound travelers include:

For those needing northbound I-25: Travel northeast on Bonforte Boulevard, north on Jerry Murphy Road, then west on CO 47 to reach northbound I-25.
For those needing southbound I-25: Travel south on Hudson Avenue, west on East 4th Street (CO 96), north on Santa Fe Avenue, and east on 13th Street (Exit 99B) to access southbound I-25.

“These closures are necessary for the safety of the traveling public,” CDOT stated.

The improvements are part of an ongoing effort by CDOT and its contractor partner SEMA Construction to enhance infrastructure in Pueblo by addressing drainage needs under this busy highway interchange.
