The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), in partnership with Martin Marietta, has announced a winter shutdown for the resurfacing project on US Highway 24 between Florissant and Woodland Park. The suspension of work began on November 20, 2025, due to seasonal weather conditions that make construction unsafe for both workers and drivers. Construction activities are expected to resume in the summer of 2026.

Work on this project began in late April and covers US 24 from Mile Point 269.4 in Florissant to Mile Point 281 near Woodland Park. It also includes a section of Colorado Highway 67 in Woodland Park from MP 76.9 at the intersection with US 24 to MP 77.5 near Red Feather Lane.

During the 2025 construction season, crews completed milling and resurfacing of the existing asphalt, installed new guardrails, and replaced curb and gutter sections. According to CDOT, “The new asphalt will add approximately 10 years of life to the highway, provide a smoother road surface and add durability by increasing the resistance of ruts and road damage.” Additionally, “Other benefits of the project include installation of new guardrail that will be 31 inches high, designed to meet new safety standard requirements making the highway safer for the traveling public.”

When work resumes next summer, crews plan to finish improvements on side streets and apply permanent striping—a process that requires warmer temperatures for proper adhesion.

For more information about this project, residents can call the project information line at 970-456-1685 or visit the CDOT website at codot.gov/projects/us24resurfacingdividewoodlandpark.
