The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on April 3 that a traffic shift will begin April 14 on US Highway 50 north of Montrose as part of a culvert replacement project. Traffic will be moved onto the westbound lanes in a two-way, single-lane configuration between Mile Post 89.7 and Mile Post 90, while the frontage road remains closed.
The department said this work is necessary to accommodate higher rainfall accumulations, reduce flooding risks, and maintain safe driving conditions. The project is expected to be completed in June 2026.
During construction, motorists can expect single- and double-lane closures as well as shoulder closures within the work zone. Work will take place during daytime hours from Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., with reduced speeds enforced in the area. Travelers are advised to plan ahead for short delays, according to CDOT.
Access to local roads such as 6300 Road will remain open for right-turn-only traffic via intersections north of the closure area. The department has provided additional contact information for residents seeking updates or with questions about the project.
According to the official website, the Colorado Department of Transportation works to improve quality of life through integrated transportation solutions and oversees infrastructure across Colorado. Shoshana Lew serves as executive director for CDOT according to its official website. The agency builds and maintains interstates, U.S., and state highways while also supporting aviation and transit projects as reported by CDOT.
