The U.S. Census Bureau has published updated data tables from the Annual Survey of State Government Finances, covering fiscal year 2024. The new statistics offer a comprehensive overview of state government finances, including information on revenue sources, expenditures, and debt levels for each state.

According to the Census Bureau, “These statistics provide a summary of the finances of state governments for fiscal year 2024. Tables include data for each state, along with detailed information on revenue sources, spending and debt.”

The financial data is utilized by federal, state, and local government agencies as well as educational and research organizations. These groups use the information for comparative studies and in calculating figures such as the government component of gross domestic product.

The survey serves as a supplement to the broader Annual Survey of State and Local Government Finances. There was no accompanying news release; only a tip sheet was issued.
