The U.S. Census Bureau will provide embargoed access to the 2020-2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates for registered subscribers starting January 27 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time. The public release of these data is scheduled for January 29.
The ACS offers detailed statistics on various aspects of the U.S. population and housing, including language spoken at home, education, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage and rent information, income levels, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. It remains the only source for local-level estimates on most of its more than 40 topics.
Embargoed statistics will be available for numerous geographic areas such as all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, congressional and state legislative districts, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, counties, places, census tracts, and block groups.
According to the Census Bureau’s embargo policy, “Wire and distribution services are prohibited from distributing embargoed news stories and data files before the embargo period ends.” All related data products—including those on data.census.gov, through the API, summary files, and other tools—will become publicly accessible by 10 a.m. ET on January 29.
Those interested in obtaining embargo access can register at www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.
