The Colorado Department of Natural Resources has announced that it is accepting applications for the position of Director of Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). The agency is looking for candidates to lead CPW, which plays a key role in conservation, recreation, and wildlife management across the state.
According to the department, “Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is a national leader in conservation, recreation and wildlife management. CPW is Colorado’s primary agency focused on protecting and caring for some of our most valued and valuable resources and is a Division in the Colorado Department of Natural Resources. These resources form the very fabric of our state and define who we are. CPW’s mission is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the state, to provide a quality state parks system, and to provide enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active stewards of Colorado’s natural resources.”
Applications for the director position are open through December 31, 2025. The process will take place online via the State of Colorado’s job portal. Both residents and non-residents are eligible to apply, with encouragement extended to candidates from all backgrounds.
CPW operates as an enterprise agency that relies mainly on license sales as well as fees from state parks registrations. Its responsibilities include overseeing 43 state parks along with more than 350 wildlife areas covering roughly 900,000 acres. Activities managed by CPW include fishing, hunting, camping, boating, outdoor education programs, as well as maintaining both motorized and non-motorized trails.
The work carried out by CPW generates about $6 billion in economic impact each year throughout Colorado.
