The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on Apr. 29 that the southbound left turn at the old Airport Road traffic signal from Powers Boulevard in Colorado Springs will permanently close after 9 a.m. on Monday, May 4.

This change is expected to affect drivers traveling southbound on Powers Boulevard who wish to access eastbound Airport Road and the west gate of Peterson Space Force Base (Stewart Avenue). After the closure, these drivers will need to use a new off-ramp at the recently constructed interchange.

Additional traffic impacts are scheduled in the coming weeks. On May 4, all southbound traffic must take the Airport Road exit to reach the new interchange. Overnight on May 6, crews will restripe Airport Road between Powers Boulevard and Industrial Place for a temporary traffic pattern. Later in May, full overnight closures of Powers Boulevard are planned for overhead sign installation; further details will be provided when this work is scheduled. Drivers are advised to watch for construction vehicles entering and exiting work areas, and all activities depend on weather conditions.

According to the official website, the Colorado Department of Transportation works to improve quality of life for residents through integrated transportation solutions and aims to deliver an effective multi-modal system that safely transports people, goods, and information while enhancing environmental standards in Colorado.
