The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), working with United Companies, has finished a resurfacing project on US Highway 40 in Winter Park. The work covered about four miles of roadway, stretching from Vasquez Road (Mile Point 229) to Winter Park Drive (MP 233). The project started on May 12 and was completed by October 15, 2025.
According to CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew, “These improvements were identified by both CDOT and the Winter Park community as priority needs, and we are proud to see this significant project completed. The US 40 Winter Park resurfacing project enhances safety, improves mobility for residents and visitors, and strengthens vital connections throughout our mountain region,” said Lew. “By improving the condition of the roadway, we are also enhancing the quality of life for commuters, bicyclists, and pedestrians. Projects such as this demonstrate CDOT’s continued commitment to maintaining and modernizing Colorado’s transportation infrastructure in close collaboration with our community partners.”
The construction involved removing old asphalt and paving new asphalt along the highway. Other work included replacing guardrails and installing ramps that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act at several locations: Blaze Resorts, Village Drive, Old Town Drive, and Winter Park Drive. Bridge joint repairs were also carried out at Mile Point 224 in Tabernash.
