The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is preparing for a snowstorm expected to move across the state starting Tuesday evening. While the storm is not anticipated to have major effects on the Front Range Tuesday night, it could impact Wednesday morning commutes.
CDOT will deploy crews statewide as snow begins in Western Colorado and gradually moves from north to south over eastern areas overnight. The department has advised drivers traveling along the Front Range, from Colorado Springs up to Wyoming, to be cautious of possible freezing ice beneath light snow cover.
“Just like we saw last week, it only takes a little precipitation and those cold temperatures can make roads very slick,” said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew. “Commuters should allow for extra time getting to work on Wednesday and take it slow.”
CDOT encourages motorists to check COtrip.org or use the COtrip Planner app before leaving home on Wednesday morning for updated road conditions.
The agency also explained that safety closures may be implemented during severe weather. These closures are intended to reduce traffic incidents and congestion by stopping vehicles on interstates, turning them around, or directing them off at exits when necessary. According to CDOT, such measures help minimize delays and prioritize traveler safety.
