The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on April 2 that preventive maintenance work will begin on Colorado Highway 115 near Penrose starting Monday, April 6. The project, in partnership with Acme Concrete Paving, will cover the stretch between Mile Point 14 and Mile Point 19.
The project aims to replace full and partial concrete pavement panels and includes a range of repairs such as fixing surface damage, sealing cracks, placing steel reinforcement, diamond grinding for smoother surfaces, guardrail replacement, and striping. According to the department’s announcement, these efforts are expected to extend the life of the highway and provide a more durable road surface.
Motorists traveling through Penrose should expect traffic impacts during construction. Work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. For the initial phase of the project, traffic will be shifted into the southbound lane with a single-lane head-to-head configuration. Speed limits will be reduced throughout the work zone.
According to the official website, the Colorado Department of Transportation works to improve quality of life for residents through integrated transportation solutions and aims to deliver an effective multi-modal system that safely transports people and goods while enhancing environmental standards in Colorado. The department oversees transportation infrastructure across the state—including interstates, U.S. highways, state highways—and administers grants for aviation and transit as reported by its official website. Shoshana Lew serves as executive director for CDOT according to its official website.
The project is expected to be completed in fall of 2026. More information can be found by calling the project information line or visiting CDOT’s official site.
