Kevin Vick, president of the Colorado Education Association (CEA) and a high school social studies teacher, issued a statement following the death of Senator Faith Winter. The statement highlighted Senator Winter’s work on behalf of working families and students throughout Colorado.
“On behalf of the nearly 40,000 members of the Colorado Education Association, we are deeply saddened by the passing of Senator Faith Winter, a dedicated public servant whose work touched countless lives across our state. Senator Winter spent her career fighting for policies that made Colorado more just, more supportive, and more humane for working families and for the students we serve every day.
“Her leadership was instrumental in securing paid family and medical leave in Colorado, a landmark achievement that continues to strengthen the wellbeing of educators and families in every community. In our public schools, she championed policies that built safer and more supportive learning environments. She pushed for protections against harassment and discrimination, expanded access to free menstrual products for students, strengthened support for students with disabilities, and stood firm in protecting transgender students.
“Senator Winter brought conviction, compassion, and a collaborative spirit to the Capitol. She was a powerful ally to educators, and she leaves behind a legacy of meaningful progress that will continue to shape our classrooms and communities for years to come.
Today, as Coloradans come together to celebrate Senator Winter’s life at her memorial service, our hearts are with her family, friends, colleagues, and all who are grieving this tremendous loss. Colorado is stronger because of her service, and we honor the lasting impact she made on our schools, our profession, and our state.”
