The Colorado Department of Natural Resources has launched ColoradoRiver.com, a new online platform designed to provide comprehensive information and resources about the Colorado River. The announcement was made by Governor Jared Polis during the Colorado Water Congress in Steamboat Springs.
“I am excited to announce today that we are launching ColoradoRiver.com as the official source for all information on our namesake river,” said Gov. Polis. “Colorado has always been the leader in the basin. This website will serve as an educational hub with maps, snowpack and flow data, and policy discussions, all managed here at the source in Colorado.”
The launch aligns with efforts to highlight Colorado’s role in managing and protecting the river, which supports communities, agriculture, and recreation throughout the state. The website aims to serve more than 40 million people and 30 Tribal Nations who depend on the river across seven U.S. states and Mexico. It also supports irrigation for over 5 million acres of farmland and sustains an economy valued at $1.4 trillion.
ColoradoRiver.com offers interactive maps detailing water usage, real-time updates on reservoir and snowpack conditions, educational material about the river’s history and environmental issues, as well as news from around the basin. Additional links and downloadable resources are available for users seeking more detailed information.
“I’m excited to connect with people across the Basin in ways that help them understand the Colorado River and stay informed on the work to keep it sustainable for generations to come,” said Becky Mitchell, Colorado’s Commissioner to the Upper Colorado River Commission. “ColoradoRiver.com is a place to see the full picture of what this resource means to millions across the West — so people can understand the stakes, and why we’re working hard to protect it.”
The public is encouraged to visit ColoradoRiver.com for further details about ongoing management efforts related to water supply challenges facing the region.
