The Colorado Medical Society (CMS) has announced that it is now accepting applications for the Education Foundation Rural Track Scholarship. The scholarship is aimed at medical students who are in good academic standing and are finishing their first or second year of a rural medicine track or program at either the University of Colorado School of Medicine or Rocky Vista University School of Osteopathic Medicine.
According to CMS, “A medical student in good academic standing finishing their first or second year of a rural medicine track or program at the University of Colorado School of Medicine or Rocky Vista University School of Osteopathic Medicine” is eligible to apply. The society also notes that “Students may not receive the award more than once.”
Applicants are required to submit an application that includes an essay, limited to 500 words, and a CV. These materials must be received by the Colorado Medical Society Education Foundation (CMSEF) in April each year, with scholarships awarded by June 1. In describing favorable elements for the essay, CMS states: “Establishment of reasons for entering the rural track or program. Establishment of why rural medicine is the best choice for the applicant. Reasons convincing the committee the applicant will practice in rural Colorado.”
The selection committee will also consider additional evaluation criteria such as whether applicants graduated from high school in a rural county in Colorado, are currently legal residents of Colorado, have clear intent to practice in a specific rural community within the state, maintain social or family ties to a specific rural community, and have demonstrated experience with humanitarian service.
The scholarship aims to support students committed to serving communities outside urban centers and encourages those with personal connections to rural areas.
