With the fall sports season underway, the Colorado Department of the Treasury is urging residents to check if they have unclaimed property waiting for them. Among those with unclaimed funds are some of Colorado’s major professional sports teams, including the Colorado Rockies, Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets, and Colorado Avalanche.

“Unclaimed property belongs to people and organizations across Colorado—including some of our most beloved sports teams,” said Colorado State Treasurer Dave Young. “We want to get these funds back to where they belong, whether that’s helping Colorado families, businesses, or even a professional franchise. Make a play to recover your lost funds. You may score big!”

The Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division holds more than $2 billion in assets for rightful owners or heirs. These assets can include items such as old refund checks, forgotten gift cards, and contents from safe deposit boxes like collectible baseball cards.

“Every year, new funds are reported to our office, and we work to make sure they get back to the right people and organizations,” said Unclaimed Property Director Bianca Gardelli. “If these dollars can make a difference for big teams, imagine how much they can help schools, local businesses, or families across Colorado.”

Earlier this summer, outreach efforts at three Colorado Rockies games helped hundreds of fans search the Great Colorado Payback database and begin claims on site. This initiative is part of a larger campaign by the division to inform Coloradans about unclaimed property.

The Treasury encourages everyone to search for potential claims using the free online tool at GreatCOPayback.com.
