The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment announced on Apr. 3 revised regulations for disease reporting, including changes to the list of reportable conditions and an updated disease reporting webpage.
These updates are intended to clarify which diseases must be reported by laboratories and health care providers, aiming to streamline public health surveillance in the state.
According to the announcement, no new reportable conditions have been added. Encephalitis has been removed from the list of reportable conditions. Eighteen pathogens that were previously required to be reported by both laboratories and health care providers are now only required to be reported by laboratories. Additionally, Mycobacterium leprae infection (Hansen’s disease) and Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) along with other transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) must now be reported by both laboratories and health care providers.
The department also highlighted a fully revised disease reporting webpage. The updated site includes dedicated sections for laboratories, health care providers, health care facilities, veterinarians, and other individuals or organizations responsible for disease reporting.
These changes reflect ongoing efforts by public health authorities in Colorado to keep regulations current with evolving best practices in infectious disease monitoring.
