The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on March 23 that it will begin installing conflict warning systems at several intersections in Douglas and Jefferson counties. The project, carried out with contract partner Sturgeon Electric, will take place on Colorado Highway 74, Colorado Highway 83, and Colorado Highway 86.

The installation of these highway conflict warning systems aims to reduce crashes at rural intersections that have poor sightlines or high crash rates. These systems use sensors along with flashing lights and signs to alert drivers about potential collisions.

Work is scheduled to start at the intersections of CO 83 with Gillian Avenue (between Mile Point 37 and MP 38) and CO 83 with Russellville Road (between MP 41 and MP 40). Crews will then move to the intersection of CO 86 with Deerfield Road at MP 11, followed by the intersection of CO 74 with Kerr Gulch at MP 1. The project is expected to be completed by early summer.

According to the official website, the Colorado Department of Transportation works to improve quality of life for residents through integrated transportation solutions. The department oversees transportation infrastructure across the state, including building and maintaining interstates, U.S. highways, state highways, as well as administering grants for aviation and transit.

The department also focuses on delivering an effective multi-modal transportation system that safely moves people, goods, and information while supporting environmental standards in Colorado according to its official website. Shoshana Lew serves as executive director for the agency as indicated by CDOT.

As per its official website, CDOT operates within the transportation sector focusing on highway maintenance along with support for aviation and transit.
