CU Boulder and CU Denver announced on March 19 that their Data Advocacy for All initiative is expanding, supported by a CU Next Award from the University of Colorado system.
The expansion aims to give students more opportunities to learn how to interpret, communicate, and apply data ethically in real-world situations. The program is designed to help students move beyond basic analysis and use data for meaningful impact.
Through open-source tools and hands-on coursework, students are learning how data can reveal patterns that affect communities across Colorado. The curriculum includes examining climate-driven natural hazards and their effects on economically vulnerable populations. This approach helps students understand how data can inform decision-making processes and raise public awareness about important issues.
The Data Advocacy for All initiative encourages students to use their skills not only in academic settings but also in addressing complex challenges faced by communities. According to the announcement, the program’s goal is to empower students with practical knowledge that can be applied outside the classroom.
A video accompanying the announcement highlights how CU students and faculty are using data advocacy as a tool for understanding complex problems and turning information into action.
