Denver Health has begun construction on the new Sam Sandos Westside Family Health Center, a facility that will expand health care services in West Denver. The project, located at 1100 Federal Blvd., is designed to increase patient capacity by 30%, allowing the center to serve more than 33,000 patients each year.
The new building will cover 82,500 square feet and is expected to open in 2027. It will offer a range of services including pediatric and adult primary care, dental care, OB-GYN services, physical and occupational therapy, as well as advanced imaging such as CT scans, X-rays, ultrasound, and mammography.
Funding for the $100–$115 million project comes in part from the Denver VIBRANT Bond. This bond was approved by voters with the goal of improving infrastructure and essential community services across Denver.
The center will keep its name in honor of Sam Sandos, Denver’s first Latino city council member. The clinic has served Spanish-speaking communities since it opened in 1968.
“For more than five decades, the Sam Sandos Westside Family Health Center has stood as a symbol of trust, compassion and community in West Denver,” said Donna Lynne, CEO of Denver Health. “This new facility builds on that proud legacy, ensuring that every family—regardless of income, language or circumstance—has access to the high-quality care they deserve. It’s an investment not just in health care, but in well-being of this community.”
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston attended the groundbreaking ceremony along with other city council leaders and members of the community. Their presence highlighted support for equitable health care access and investments driven by local needs.
