The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced several travel impacts along the San Juan Skyway for the week of August 25. Motorists traveling between Durango, Silverton, Ridgway, Telluride, and Dolores should expect closures and delays due to construction and wildfire activity.

US Highway 550 will be fully closed in both directions between Durango and Silverton from August 25 through August 28. The closures will occur daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Northbound traffic will be stopped just north of the Coal Bank Pass overlook at Mile Point 56.6, while southbound vehicles will be halted at Andrews Lake Road at Mile Point 63. The four-hour closures are necessary for crews to install a new culvert under the roadway near the summit of Coal Bank Pass. Access to local trailheads, overlooks, and restrooms will remain available during this period.

On Colorado Highway 145 near Lawson Hill, maintenance teams will conduct paving operations between Society Drive (Mile Point 70.5) and Wagner Way (Mile Point 69.3). Work is scheduled Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with motorists advised to expect delays ranging from 15 to 30 minutes. These operations depend on weather conditions.

Additionally, wildfire activity continues west of CO 145 between Rico and Dolores due to the Stoner Mesa Wildfire. Firefighters are present along CO 145 and Montezuma County Road 38 about twelve miles north of Dolores. Drivers are urged to slow down and stay alert in these areas for their own safety as well as that of emergency personnel.
