IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen and other leaders recently visited members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) at Alaska Airlines Cargo. During their trip, they spoke with mechanics from both Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines in Seattle and Hawaii.
A major topic during these meetings was the upcoming representation election between IAM and the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA). The election is a result of the ongoing merger between Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines. Johnsen addressed questions from union members about this process.
Johnsen publicly challenged AMFA to a debate regarding aircraft maintenance technician representation. He stated, “I am willing to meet at any time, anywhere to discuss issues at stake for the workforce.”
Video highlights of Johnsen’s remarks are available online.
