IAM Union General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes and Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen visited the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center (W3) to engage with members participating in organizing and young worker leadership classes.
During their visit, Cervantes and Johnsen attended Organizing I classes conducted in both Spanish and English, as well as the Young Workers Leadership Program. The sessions brought together students from across North America who are focused on building their skills to support the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).
Dora Cervantes emphasized the significance of offering organizing education in Spanish. She stated that it is important for all members to have access to resources needed for leadership roles. According to Cervantes, her presence at W3 highlighted IAM’s ongoing efforts toward inclusion, education, and empowering union members.
Richie Johnsen met with organizers and young workers during his visit. He commended their commitment and energy during a busy time of year.
Participants in the Young Workers program noted that the leaders’ visit reinforced their sense of belonging within the labor movement and confirmed their place at decision-making tables.
