A group of leaders from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), led by Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli and Chief of Staff Vinny Addeo, visited the Quaker Oats facility in Cedar Rapids. The visit was organized with the Local 831 (District 6) Shop Committee to observe production operations and recognize the contributions of IAM members at the plant.
The Cedar Rapids facility is recognized as the world’s largest cereal mill, producing Cap’n Crunch cereals among other products.
“This tour offered an invaluable perspective on the commitment and skill our members bring to their work every day,” said Cicinelli. “Seeing the scale of operations and hearing directly from rank-and-file members strengthens our resolve to continuously advocate for fair wages, safe working conditions, and a seat at the table in shaping the future of labor at Quaker Oats.”
During their visit, IAM representatives addressed issues such as workplace safety, training programs, and economic priorities. These discussions are part of ongoing efforts to increase union influence within major workplaces.
IAM members shared their experiences regarding operational challenges and opportunities at the facility. They emphasized union solidarity and active leadership involvement ahead of upcoming contract negotiations. Collaboration with other unions present at the site, including SMART and BCTGM, was also highlighted as a factor that enhances IAM’s position.
