The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) recently conducted its 2025 Joint Air Transport Safety Committee (JATSC) Conference at the William W. Winpisinger Center in Hollywood, Maryland. The event focused on advancing collaborative safety programs, including the Ground Safety Action Program, and emphasized efforts to prevent injuries and reduce hazards in the air transport sector.

The committee also highlighted the importance of supporting training and education initiatives, as well as advocating for strong worker safety reporting systems. Conference sessions included presentations on issues such as distracted driving and workplace behaviors like carelessness and complacency. Daily video wrap-up reports provided summaries of the sessions and discussions held during the event.

According to the IAM, “The committee’s core focus areas included promoting collaborative safety programs such as the Ground Safety Action Program, actively working toward injury prevention and hazard mitigation, supporting training and education initiatives, and advocating for robust worker safety reporting systems.”
