Members of IAM Union Local 696 (District 19) Rail Division at the CSX Bryan Park roadway shop in Richmond, Va., described on Apr. 2 a detailed rebuild process for heavy machinery that includes teardown, fabrication, and complex electrical and hydraulic assembly.

The work performed by these union members is important for maintaining the safety and efficiency of rail operations. Their efforts ensure that equipment is fully restored before returning to service.

According to IAM Union operators, the equipment rebuilt at Bryan Park performs exceptionally well once it returns to the rail lines. One operator said that machines produced by IAM “function like a ‘Cadillac'” after being serviced.

The process involves dismantling old or damaged machinery, fabricating necessary parts, and completing intricate electrical and hydraulic systems assembly. The union workers emphasize their commitment to quality craftsmanship throughout each stage of the rebuild.

This focus on thorough repair and attention to detail helps support ongoing railroad operations while upholding high standards within the industry.
