Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), in collaboration with Uber, the Colorado Department of Transportation, and the Colorado State Patrol, is urging Americans to plan ahead for a safe Halloween weekend. The organizations emphasize the importance of driving sober to prevent accidents and ensure safety on the roads.

Halloween is among the deadliest nights for children and pedestrians. In 2023, 29% of fatal car crashes on Halloween involved impaired drivers, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Studies also show that pedestrian deaths increase by 43% on Halloween compared to other nights, with children aged four to eight especially at risk.

MADD’s National President, Alex Otte, said, “Halloween should be a time for fun and celebration, not tragedy.” She highlighted that planning ahead can prevent impaired driving incidents.

Uber is offering discounted rides as part of this initiative. According to an Uber spokesperson, “We want to make it easier for people to make the right choice by not driving under the influence.” Riders in and around Denver can use code SPOOKYCO25 for a discount on Uber trips during Halloween weekend.

The Colorado Department of Transportation also stressed the need for awareness. A representative mentioned that they are working closely with law enforcement agencies to monitor and manage traffic during this period.

Colorado State Patrol’s Chief emphasized their commitment to ensuring public safety. He said, “Our officers will be out in full force this weekend.”
