The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close sections of Interstate 25 at Colorado Highway 7 next week to install concrete girders for a new pedestrian bridge. The closures are part of the ongoing I-25 & CO 7 Interim Mobility Hub project in Adams and Broomfield counties.
Northbound I-25 at CO 7 will be closed overnight on Monday, Dec. 8, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., while southbound I-25 at the same location will be closed during the same hours on Tuesday, Dec. 9. According to CDOT, “Drivers can expect a single lane closure at 8 p.m., a double lane closure at 9 p.m., and a full closure of I-25 at 11 p.m. on both nights. Traffic then will detour around the closure via the CO 7 exit and entrance ramps (Exit 229). Slower traffic and delays should be expected. Traffic control personnel will be present to manage traffic flow and maintain safety on the ramps and CO 7. All lanes will reopen to traffic by 5 a.m.”
If weather conditions prevent work as scheduled, CDOT plans to reschedule the closures for Dec. 10 and Dec. 11.
CDOT explained that closing I-25 at night allows for an expanded work zone for construction crews while keeping drivers safe through the area: “Closing I-25 at night allows the work zone to be expanded for the construction team and allows the traveling public to safely travel through the area.”
The installation of girders marks a significant step in this project, which began in March 2025. The mobility hub includes several improvements such as a Park-and-Ride lot in the southeast quadrant of the interchange, Bustang slip ramps, a pedestrian bridge over I-25, and a permanent water quality pond. These features aim to improve connectivity within the region, offer more reliable transportation options, and reduce travel times.
Completion of the project is anticipated in fall 2026.
