The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), together with Elam Construction, has finished a resurfacing project on Colorado Highway 141 near Gateway. The work covered about 13 miles, stretching from Mile Point 107 at Larsen Canyon, south of Gateway, to Mile Point 120 at Turner Gulch, north of Gateway. The project started on July 7 and concluded in October 2025.

According to Jason Smith, CDOT Regional Transportation Director, “CO 141 is a scenic and historically significant route that winds through the western region of the state. In addition to supporting tourism, the highway serves as a vital link for connecting rural communities. The new surface will make this route more reliable.”

The project involved two layers of asphalt overlay paving, replacement of guardrails, and repairs to bridge decks at two locations. Crews also added shouldering material along both sides of the road for all 13 miles to improve safety by giving drivers a smoother and more stable area if they need to return to the roadway.
