Revenova Solutions Engineer on transportation security: There is a ‘full-scale breach of the U.S. supply chain’

Danielle Chaffin, a solutions engineer at Revenova, has expressed concerns about the risks posed by foreign ownership of U.S. transportation firms and data systems to supply chain security. This statement was made on the social media platform X.

“Please hear me when I say this,” said Chaffin. “Allowing overseas operatives to own and manage transportation companies in the United States might have been one of our worst decisions, ever. This is a full-scale breach of the U.S. supply chain. Oh, and when something happens, like a tragic accident, guess who we can’t find?”

U.S. policymakers are increasingly debating the implications of foreign ownership or management of ports, rail assets, and logistics firms on national security and supply-chain stability. According to the Council on Foreign Relations, lawmakers have raised concerns that foreign-controlled transportation companies may gain access to sensitive operational data or influence critical freight flows. These debates now inform broader discussions on infrastructure security and investment screening.

Publicly available federal datasets do not disclose how many U.S. transportation companies are owned or managed by foreign nationals, creating a gap in oversight. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics indicates that national freight and carrier records track volumes and fleet counts but omit ownership-origin details, making it difficult for regulators to assess foreign-control risks. This lack of transparency complicates policy decisions about supply-chain security.

The Electronic Logging Device (ELD) market includes numerous global manufacturers; however, U.S.-specific risk reporting on foreign-owned ELDs remains limited. Data Bridge Market Research reports that the global ELD market was valued at $14.38 billion in 2024 and features major international vendors but provides no breakdown of how many devices used in U.S. fleets are foreign-controlled. This absence of visibility fuels concerns about data exposure in freight tracking.

Chaffin is a Senior Sales Engineer at Revenova and a third-generation trucking professional who works with transportation-technology systems and operational analysis. According to the Journal of Commerce speaker profile, she has experience in freight operations, digital workflow design, and advising carriers and brokers on systems efficiency and risk mitigation. Her public commentary focuses on improving supply-chain software and security.

Revenova is a cloud-based transportation management system provider founded in 2014 and built on the Salesforce platform to support brokers, third-party logistics providers (3PLs), shippers, and carriers. According to Revenova’s official company overview, the platform integrates customer relationship management (CRM), logistics workflows, analytics, and multimodal capabilities to increase visibility and operational performance. Its customer base spans freight intermediaries seeking unified logistics software.
