Rocky Mountain PBS (RMPBS) and Xcel Energy have formed a partnership aimed at increasing wildfire preparedness and mitigation across Colorado. The new statewide initiative, Partners in Prevention, seeks to provide residents with information and tools to help reduce wildfire risks.

The effort involves collaboration with first responders, city and state agencies, the American Red Cross, and other community organizations. Through RMPBS’s public media network and input from utility companies and emergency services, the initiative will distribute practical guidance to communities throughout the state.

Programming will reach urban, rural, and mountain areas through television broadcasts, online content, community events—both in-person and virtual—and educational resources designed for families. The focus is on wildfire prevention strategies, emergency readiness measures, and coordinated actions to boost community resilience.

“At Rocky Mountain PBS, our mission is to serve the public good by providing trusted, relevant information that helps Coloradans navigate critical issues,” said Amanda Mountain, President & CEO of Rocky Mountain Public Media. “Through Partners in Prevention, we’re working with Xcel Energy and safety-focused partners across the state to amplify lifesaving information—especially to those communities that are hardest to reach.”

As part of this launch, RMPBS and Xcel Energy have introduced an online resource hub under the Partners in Prevention banner. This platform features safety guidance on wildfires, tips for preparedness, educational materials for families and children, as well as links to local and statewide emergency services. Content updates are planned in the coming weeks as part of a continued commitment to keep communities informed.

“Public outreach is a core principle of our wildfire mitigation strategy,” said President Robert Kenney of Xcel Energy Colorado. “Helping our customers and emergency responders stay informed and prepared can save lives and property. Preventing catastrophic wildfires takes collective action, and everyone has a role to play.”

The joint initiative also aims to support Coloradans before, during, and after emergencies by reinforcing both organizations’ commitment to public service. Additional details about the program are available at rmpbs.org/wildfire.
