The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on April 15 that southbound Interstate 25 between Fillmore Street and Garden of the Gods Road in Colorado Springs will experience lane closures and full overnight shutdowns from April 16 through April 19. The closures are part of ongoing roadway and bridge deck repairs aimed at improving safety for both motorists and construction crews.

The project is significant as it impacts a major transportation corridor used by many residents and commuters. According to the official website, the Colorado Department of Transportation works to improve the quality of life for Colorado residents through integrated transportation solutions.

On Thursday, April 16, overnight lane closures will affect the left and middle lanes as crews cut into pavement to prepare for repairs. Bridge deck work is scheduled for Friday, April 17, with expansion device removal and replacement on both ends of the bridge. Additional repairs will continue Sunday, April 19, including a traffic shift behind barriers. Full southbound I-25 closures at Garden of the Gods Road are set from 10 p.m. Friday until early Saturday morning, then again Sunday night into Monday morning.

Detours during these times require motorists traveling southbound on I-25 to exit at Garden of the Gods Road, head west before turning south onto Centennial Boulevard, then reconnecting with I-25 past Fillmore Street near Centennial Boulevard. Updates about future full overnight closures—including northbound I-25 on May 1 and another southbound closure on May 8—will be communicated ahead of time.

According to the official website, Shoshana Lew holds the role of executive director for the Colorado Department of Transportation. The department oversees transportation infrastructure across Colorado and aims to deliver an effective multi-modal system that safely transports people while enhancing environmental standards in Colorado according to its official website.

As per information outlined by its official site, CDOT builds and maintains interstates as well as U.S. highways while administering grants for aviation and transit projects statewide.
