Stefanie Sass, public policy and communications manager at Uber, announced that the company is collaborating with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), and the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) to promote safe travel this Halloween. The initiative includes offering discounted rides and encouraging responsible choices, as said in a press release.

“This Halloween, Uber is proud to stand alongside MADD, the Colorado State Patrol, and the Colorado Department of Transportation to help keep Colorado roads safe,” said Sass. “By offering an alternative to drinking and driving, we’re empowering Coloradans to make the responsible choice and avoid impaired driving this Halloween weekend.”

According to a press release, the partnership aims to reduce impaired driving over Halloween weekend by offering discounted Uber rides in and around Denver using the code “SPOOKYCO25.” The initiative encourages Coloradans to plan ahead for a sober ride and supports broader statewide efforts by MADD, CDOT, and the Colorado State Patrol to prevent impaired driving crashes during one of the most dangerous nights of the year for pedestrians and children.

CDOT reported that Colorado recorded 203 impairment-related traffic deaths in 2024, marking an 11% decline from 227 in 2023 and the lowest total since 2019. During the 2023 Halloween enforcement period, CDOT noted over 200 DUI arrests and $23,000 in Uber discounts distributed statewide. These figures highlight both ongoing risks and the effectiveness of safety partnerships during high-risk holidays.

Research from MADD and the Governors Highway Safety Association indicates that ridesharing availability can reduce alcohol-related crashes by approximately 5% and fatalities by about 6%. These findings support Uber’s holiday voucher campaigns with MADD and CDOT, which aim to direct impaired drivers toward safer ride options and decrease DUI-related collisions in Colorado.

According to Florida Politics, Stefanie Sass was appointed as Public Policy Manager for Uber’s Southern U.S. region in October 2024. Her previous roles include serving as Chief of Staff to Miami-Dade County’s Chief Operations Officer and working in congressional affairs at NASA. Her work focuses on community partnerships that enhance safety and reduce impaired driving incidents.

Uber’s mission is to create opportunity through movement, helping people get where they need to go safely and efficiently. The company partners with organizations like MADD, the Colorado Department of Transportation, and the Colorado State Patrol to promote sober driving and prevent impaired-driving crashes. Through campaigns such as the Halloween weekend initiative, Uber provides discounted rides to encourage responsible choices and help keep Colorado roads safe.
