The University of Colorado Boulder has been ranked fifth in the nation for its free speech climate, according to the latest College Free Speech Rankings released by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) and College Pulse. This places CU Boulder as the highest-ranked institution in Colorado. The University of Colorado Denver was also recognized, ranking 77th nationally and second in the state.

The rankings are based on a survey that gathered responses from more than 68,000 students across 257 colleges and universities. CU Boulder received praise for adopting a statement on institutional neutrality and holds a “green light” rating in FIRE’s Spotlight database. Additionally, FIRE noted the CU Board of Regents’ endorsement of the pro-free speech Chicago Statement, which extends to all campuses within the university system.
