The University of Colorado announced on Mar. 26 that student access to ChatGPT Edu across its four campuses will be postponed until the fall semester at the request of the Faculty Council.
The delay comes after faculty leadership expressed concerns that introducing ChatGPT Edu to students in the middle of a semester could disrupt the learning environment. University leaders agreed to postpone student access, setting a new date for Aug. 14.
“We have heard concerns from faculty about disruption to the learning environment this semester and take Faculty Council concerns seriously. We fully endorse the right of faculty to establish and maintain their individual classroom expectations,” according to an email message from CU President Todd Saliman and all four campus chancellors.
Despite this change for students, all faculty and staff at both the CU system office and all campuses will receive access as originally planned on March 31.
The decision reflects ongoing efforts by university leadership to balance technological innovation with maintaining effective classroom environments.
