For more than 20 years at CU Boulder and 10 years at CU Denver, the Learning Assistant (LA) model has aimed to enhance classroom learning by having students serve as peer mentors and instructional leaders. With support from a CU Next system award, this approach is now being expanded throughout the University of Colorado system, including UCCS.
The LA model combines faculty development with student leadership to change courses using teaching practices based on research. It offers students chances to strengthen their knowledge, increase their confidence, and help their peers. The goal is to create a collaborative environment that supports student success in different fields and across campuses.
