Faculty members from CU Anschutz, CU Denver, and UCCS have introduced three new specializations and one new course on Coursera in the past year. These additions broaden the University of Colorado’s offerings on the global online learning platform.
The latest courses cover a variety of topics, including basic coding with artificial intelligence, applications of AI in health care, agile systems engineering, and cultural awareness for professional teams. Learners using Coursera now have access to features powered by generative AI. These include a virtual assistant that provides personalized support and resources, an AI role play tool for practicing soft skills, as well as tools for AI dubbing and academic integrity.
Since 2013, faculty across CU Anschutz, CU Denver, and UCCS have created 143 courses and 34 specializations on Coursera. These offerings have attracted over 2.2 million unique learners worldwide with more than 3.2 million total enrollments. This highlights the University of Colorado’s ongoing role in making high-quality online education accessible to a broad audience. Additionally, CU Boulder provides open content and degree programs through its own contract with Coursera.
CU students, faculty, and staff can take any course developed by the university on Coursera at no cost through CU on Coursera. Enrollment instructions are available via the university’s Employee Services website.
The new courses include:
– Vibe Coding Fundamentals: Taught by Scott Reed, Ph.D., associate professor of chemistry at CU Denver. The course is designed for beginners to learn how to build AI-driven applications without prior coding experience.
– Team Success Through Cultural Awareness: Led by Brenda J. Allen, Ph.D., professor emeritus of communication at CU Denver. This course aims to help professionals understand cultural dynamics in workplaces to foster inclusive teamwork.
– Agile Systems Engineering: Instructed by J. Morgan Nicholson, Ph.D., lecturer of engineering at UCCS. It targets early career systems engineers and technical leaders with an overview of traditional systems engineering methods.
– AI for Health Care Systems: Presented by Jiban Khuntia, Ph.D., associate professor of business at CU Denver. The course explores how artificial intelligence can improve health care delivery and innovation.
Faculty interested in developing additional Coursera courses or specializations are encouraged to contact jaimie.henthorn@cu.edu for further information.
