University of Colorado shares August federal relations updates on policy changes

The University of Colorado’s Federal Relations and Counsel team released updates in August covering several federal policy developments relevant to higher education and research. The Aug. 22 update highlights the proposed rule for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), a recent Supreme Court decision regarding National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant terminations, new guidance from the Department of Education on allowable activities under the Federal Work-Study (FWS) program, an implementation plan for NIH’s “Gold Standard Science” initiative, reorganization at the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and updated screening guidance from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

An earlier update from Aug. 20 summarizes ongoing federal budget discussions for fiscal year 2026, including appropriations and rescissions, as well as a visit by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to CU Anschutz Medical Campus.
