The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on April 22 that a two-day operation to replace a traffic signal pole at the intersection of US Highway 160 and Colorado Highway 172, known as Elmore’s Corner, will begin Thursday, April 23. Motorists traveling between Durango and Bayfield should expect daytime delays due to lane reductions, slower speeds, and flagging operations from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both April 23 and Monday, April 27.

The project will start with crews pouring a concrete foundation in the median on April 23. After the concrete sets, installation of the new traffic signal pole is scheduled for April 27. Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time during these periods.

Additional delays ranging from five to ten minutes are expected on US Highway 160 west of Pagosa Springs (Mile Points 126 to 137) from Monday through Thursday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., continuing through June. More information about ongoing fiber optic installation can be found at www.southernute-nsn.gov/broadband-modernization-project/.

During work at Elmore’s Corner on both dates, lane closures will occur within the work zone under guidance by flagging personnel. Traffic delays up to ten minutes are anticipated as part of these operations.

According to the official website, the Colorado Department of Transportation works to improve quality of life for residents through integrated transportation solutions and aims to deliver an effective multi-modal system that safely transports people, goods, and information while enhancing environmental standards in Colorado.
