The Colorado Department of Transportation announced on April 9 that a resurfacing project will begin Tuesday, April 14, along US Highway 50 in Delta County. The work will extend from three miles north of Delta at Mile Point 68.5 to the intersection of US 50 and B Road at Mile Point 77. The downtown core of the City of Delta, between Mile Points 70.90 and 72, will not be affected by this phase.
The project aims to improve driving conditions and safety for motorists and pedestrians in the area. It includes guardrail replacement, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramp reconstruction, as well as minor improvements and safety enhancements on bridges over the Gunnison River. Completion is expected by mid-July.
Several work zones will operate concurrently along this nine-mile stretch. Resurfacing will start on the south end of Delta while sidewalk and ADA ramp upgrades are scheduled at Wide Acres Park, the entrance to the CDOT yard, four locations on 1525 Road, two locations each on both 1560 Road and Ute Street, as well as at the City Market Entrance.
United Companies from Grand Junction is managing construction for this $7.5 million project. Work hours are set for weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with single-lane alternating traffic controlled by flaggers resulting in delays up to fifteen minutes; speed limits through work zones will be reduced to forty miles per hour.
According to the official website, the Colorado Department of Transportation works to improve quality of life through integrated transportation solutions and delivers a multi-modal system that safely transports people and goods while maintaining environmental standards in Colorado. Shoshana Lew serves as executive director for CDOT according to its official website. As outlined on its official website, CDOT oversees transportation infrastructure statewide—including building highways—and administers grants for aviation and transit while focusing on highway maintenance.
