Xcel Energy is inviting community members to participate in its 15th annual Day of Service, scheduled from September 11 to September 13. The event encourages employees, their families, and the public to volunteer for nonprofit projects across Colorado. Opportunities are available in Denver, Grand Junction, Alamosa, Pueblo, and Fort Collins. Volunteers can choose from indoor and outdoor activities such as land stewardship, meal packing for those facing food insecurity, assembling learning kits for youth programs, and supporting adults with intellectual disabilities.

“We are always looking for ways to make energy work better for our customers and communities, and what better way than using our energy by providing hands-on support to our local non-profits during our annual Day of Service,” said Robert Kenney, president of Xcel Energy—Colorado. “We have a long history of investing in the communities we are privileged to serve and we’re proud to give our time and resources to make a difference in the lives around us. People of all ages and abilities can participate—we invite you to come join us.”

Since its start in 2010, Day of Service has become Xcel Energy’s largest volunteer initiative. In 2024, nearly 2,200 participants contributed about 7,900 hours across eight states served by the company. Their work included packing 130,000 meals and supported over 100 nonprofits. The total economic impact was estimated at more than $260,000.

The event was established as a tribute to victims, survivors, and first responders of September 11th as well as others who help keep communities safe. It aims to bring together Xcel Energy employees and community members for projects that benefit local organizations.

Xcel Energy serves millions of customers across eight states: Minnesota, Colorado, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, New Mexico, and Texas. The company is headquartered in Minneapolis and focuses on providing reliable electricity and gas while advancing clean energy initiatives.
