Xcel Energy crews are working to restore power to customers in Colorado after a severe windstorm and a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) affected service on Friday. The restoration efforts include replacing utility poles and using helicopters for repairs, particularly in Evergreen and Boulder, which were among the hardest-hit areas.

By Sunday morning, Xcel Energy had restored electricity to about 58,000 customers who lost power during the extreme weather event. Approximately 15,000 customers remained without service, with most expected to have power restored by Sunday evening.

Resource centers have been set up in some locations to provide information and support. Xcel Energy’s RED Trucks are stationed at these centers to assist customers. For those needing food assistance, information is available through the Find Food Map, which lists Hunger Relief Partners throughout Colorado.

Xcel Energy continues to communicate updates on the restoration process through its website and social media channels such as Facebook and X. The company encourages customers to report any damage like downed power lines or broken poles via several methods: the Xcel Energy mobile app (available in the Apple App Store and Google Play), online at xcelenergy.com/out, by texting OUT or STAT to 98936, or by calling 1-800-895-1999.

Friday’s severe weather created an increased wildfire risk that prompted Xcel Energy to implement a PSPS across Boulder, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Jefferson, Larimer, and Weld counties. Additional outages occurred due to storm conditions beyond those caused by the shutoff.

“Xcel Energy will continue to update the restoration process with customers through their chosen method of communication, on its website and on its social media channels, including Facebook and X,” said a company statement.

The safety of repair crews remains a priority as work continues. Customers are asked to help keep workers safe as they complete repairs.

Event updates and tips for preparing for severe weather can be found on the Xcel Energy Event Update webpage.

Xcel Energy is based in Minneapolis and serves electricity and gas customers across eight states: Minnesota, Colorado, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota, New Mexico, and Texas. More information is available at xcelenergy.com or through their social media accounts.
